Administrative Charging - Learning Objectives

Welcome to Overview and the Regulatory Environment, Module IV "Administrative Charging." After completing this module, you will be able to perform the following objectives; to prove your knowledge for certification, you will be required to take a post test (scroll to the bottom of the page to start the module):

  • Correctly identify the OMB circular that requires administrative/clerical expenses to normally be treated as "indirect costs."

  • Correctly apply the policy on administrative charging to federal awards.

  • State when it is appropriate to apply the policy to a non-federal sponsor.

  • State four conditions that must be met for a project to be considered major.

  • Identify from a list, at least three examples of Major Projects.

  • Identify three criteria that must be met to direct charge an administrative expense.

  • State how to account for the expenses incurred if a sponsor disapproves a direct charge to a major project.

  • Correctly apply the policy to determine the administrative related costs that can be charged when a project qualifies as major.

Testing for certification: If you have registered for certification in research administration, you will be required to take 2 tests at the end of the class, each of which you must pass with 100%. If you miss any questions, the system will prompt you with a web link to the section you should review again, and you will be allowed to re-submit your answer. You will be prompted to take the first test at the end of this module; questions for this module will be contained in that test.
