Class Content
Gift Administration at Stanford is an online class that addresses the responsibilities involved in administering gifts of cash in the form of checks and wire transfers as well as property. The class is appropriate for staff and faculty who administer gifts. The class is divided into six modules.

- Overview of Gift Administration Policy, Fundamentals, and Responsibilities
- Determine Whether Funds Can Be Classified as a Gift, or Support for a Sponsored Project
- Gift Processing Tasks
- Complete the Appropriate Gift Transmittal Form
- Select a PFOO (account) to hold the gift funds
- Deliver the check with a Gift Transmittal Form to Gift Processing within 24 hours
- Non Cash Gifts: Property (Equipment), Stock, Real Estate, and Other Tangible Items
- Stewardship

After completing this class, you will be able to:
Module 1
- Identify activities funded by gifts to Stanford
Module 2
- Locate University Policy to correctly perform gift administration responsibilities
- Identify gift administration fundamentals
- Accurately recognize whether a gift is expendable or endowment, restricted or unrestricted
Module 3
- Identify the four general gift processing tasks
- Apply University policy to correctly perform gift administration responsibilities
- Identify the characteristics that distinguish a Gift from a Sponsored Project
- Identify the process to follow to determine whether funding is a gift or support for a sponsored project
- Correctly complete and route the Gift or Sponsored Project Indicators continuum and Determination Process Checklist
Module 4
- When appropriate, accurately select an existing PFOO/PTA or request a new PFOO/PTA for a gift
- Correctly complete and route the correct Gift Transmittal Form
- Correctly complete a Notification of Wire and ACH Transfer of Cash to Stanford form when required
Module 5
- Identify process for administering non-cash gifts
Module 6
- Identify stewardship responsibilities applicable to spending gift funds
- Identify how gifts are acknowledged at Stanford
- Locate and use the appropriate University policy, procedures, tools, and contacts to correctly carryout gift administration responsibilities
Level II Certification
If you are working toward a Level II certificate, this class is an elective. We recommend you take it after taking the required Level II classes.
