| BASICS - ONLY ADOBE APPLICATIONS ARE BEING ACCEPTED |
Before you can view and complete an application package, you MUST have the compatible Adobe Reader installed. As of March 2009, only Adobe application packages are being accepted through grants.gov. Make sure you have the most current version compatible with Grants.gov and your computer.
What about "touching" the application with multiple versions of Adobe Reader? Guidance from Grants.gov is "as long as everyone who touches the application package uses a compatible version of Adobe Reader, it should submit fine."
Note:
- NIH is requiring Adobe Reader 8.1.3 (nothing lower) and versions 8.1.6 or 9.1.2 are recommended
- MAC Users: 9.1 works best! Some crashing has been experienced with 8.1.3.
- You can check your computer/operating system compatibility with Adobe.
- Grants.gov has a lot of information on their Adobe Reader FAQ page.
Additional Software Needs
- A PDF Writer
- You may no longer need a separate PDF Writer for attachments if y ou are using Microsoft products (Office 2007 or later). Office has a plug-in you can download free that will allow you to "SAVE AS PDF" for Microsoft products.
- If you are creating PDFs from software other than Microsoft Office, you may need a writer. Adobe Acrobat is the recommended (and inexpensive) solution at Stanford.
- Optional: If you need an alternate web browser (for the PC or the MAC), Mozilla Firefox is an excellent alternative browser. You can download it free.
