| Export Control and Equipment
Export controls have been put in place over the years to project U.S. national security, and in the post-9-11 world export scrutiny has increased. There is great concern about technology and information being passed to sanctioned countries.
Stanford University has created a website on Export Controls with links to policy, tools, and forms. Many of the regulations and policies center on the transport and transfer of equipment.
So how can one determine if equipment (other than laptops, PDAs and cell phones) or software might require an export license? Stanford’s Export Controls Decision Tree is an excellent tool to help you determine if Stanford-owned equipment other than laptops, PDAs, and cell phones might be taken or shipped overseas without an export license.
Wading through information on the Annual and One-Time Temporary Export (TMP) certifications, and Stanford-Owned or Controlled Equipment and Software export information is complicated. Please review the FAQs on these topics. This page is broken down into very easy to understand explanations on what these forms are, why we must use them, and when to use each form.
