About Surplus Property Sales

Stanford University Surplus Property Sales (SPS) serves the university and the surrounding community by promoting reutilization through weekly sales of excess University assets. Through our efforts we seek to support a sustainable environment and green campus while aiming to provide affordable options to both departments and the general public by selling the vast variety of items which become excess to university departments and projects each year. SPS is operated as a self-sustaining auxiliary and strives to return the maximum proceeds to departments for assets which are sold. We are dedicated to continuous program improvements and growth which will support the university’s needs related to the value of its excess property.

Surplus Property Sales is organized under the Property Management Office (PMO) under the Office of Research Administration (ORA). It was reorganized as a self-sustaining Auxiliary in 2005. SPS is the only entity authorized by the University Board of Trustees to sell University assets.

Items are available for sale to both the general public and departments. SPS holds regular weekly sales of items which are found excess to the University. Vehicles are sold by bid; when available vehicles and bid information are posted on the SPS website.

Surplus Property Sales does not offer any delivery services or moving staff. Departments may request labor services to move departmental purchases by visiting the Facilities Operations website. Patrons are responsible for removing their purchases.

Purchases by the general public may be made using cash, cashier’s check/money order only. Departments must pay by ijournal transfer.

Departments are encouraged to post their excess assets on the REUSE website prior to sending them to Surplus Property Sales. The reuse website is for the advertising or request of items to be transferred between Stanford departments. Items listed on this site are not for "sale" or for off campus use, and it is accessed by logging on with your SUNet ID. The REUSE website helps Stanford minimize expenses and support the University’s commitment to Sustainability at Stanford. Visit or contact the Property Management Office for more information.
