Effective October 10, 2025 NSF Requires Research Security Training PRIOR to NSF Proposal Submissions

Effective October 10, 2025, the National Science Foundation (NSF)) mandates that principal investigators and individuals identified as senior/key personnel in NSF proposals must complete research security training consistent with Section 10634 of the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 within 12 months prior to proposal submission.

If you anticipate submitting a NSF and/or DOE proposal, complete Stanford Research Security Training (DOR-2000) in STARS The training should take less than an hour.

Even if you are not submitting a NSF proposal, we encourage researchers to complete research security training. Other federal agencies will be implementing similar requirements, such as the DoE which began requiring research security training effective May 5, 2025. While the timing of when training must be completed varies by agency, they all share the goal of promoting research security awareness and protecting the integrity of federally funded research.

NOTE: If you have already completed research security training, please email researchsecurity@stanford.edu  and we will ensure that your records are updated.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please send an email to researchsecurity@stanford.edu
