Sponsored Projects Maintenance

Main content start

When Stanford accepts a sponsored project award it is the PI’s responsibility, with indispensable support from departmental research administrators, to manage that sponsored project award throughout its life to ensure that it is used for authorized purposes, complies with laws, regulations, and the provisions of the agreement, incurs allowable, allocable, and reasonable expenses in accordance with the agreement, and achieves its performance goals.

PI’s and administrators should be familiar with the award agreement, general sponsor requirements, and the sponsor approved project budget to ensure compliant project management and maintenance from award set up through close out.

Managing a sponsored project award is a lot like maintaining a car.  If you read the manual and follow the recommended maintenance schedule, the car or project will run smoothly, and the journey will have very few challenges.

Explore the recommended departmental action items for each stage in the sponsored project lifecycle.
